Several Points About Science Makers
1. There is only one moderator and administrator, which is Teacher Scimage Jiahsu.
2. We don't sell anything here. All Scimage instruments are non-sale items. The only way to obtain Scimage scientific instruments is through free donation.
3. The 'Phone Microscope' was the first instrument born in the community. In addition, Teacher Jiahsu has designed many interesting tools, instruments, modules, and APPs, totaling at least 63 types.
4. Besides the main 'Science Maker' community, we also have 67 sub-communities discussing various topics.
5. The 'Phone Microscope' and 'Phone Macro Lens' are the most popular observation tools, loved by many.
6. The community has a point system for exchanging small tools and gifts. Each item is carefully selected by Teacher Jiahsu, specifically designed for scientific observation applications, different from what's sold outside!
7. If you 'register' for any tool, remember to actively 'donate' and fill out the 'delivery form' in the community within the next 1-2 weeks to receive it smoothly.
8. If you receive a small gift from Teacher Jiahsu or want to exchange Scispot points for a small gift, remember to leave a note when filling out the form.
9. Little secret: There are often special activities when the community reaches 10,000 members or during Christmas.
10. The community has experts from various fields and many kind-hearted people. We share a wonderful discussion space together.
Registration and Production Registration
Registration is just to help Teacher Jiahsu estimate how many materials to prepare. You still need to complete the free donation, fill out forms, and provide your address to receive the items.
For example, to get a phone microscope, you need to look for Teacher Jiahsu's posts (Scimage Jiahsu, profile picture is WALL-E). The registration post will start with 'Phone Microscope Production Registration'. Leave a comment according to the specified method in the post to complete registration.
Unless specifically stated otherwise, all members of the Science Maker community are eligible to register.
Forms, Delivery Forms, Forms, Reply Slips
If you only register or forget to fill out the form after donating, you won't receive the tools!
After registration ends, Teacher Jiahsu will announce another post starting with 'Payment, Shipping Information and Confirmation'. The post will contain payment information and a Google form link.
This is when free donation begins. Check the tools you registered for in the form, and items will be sent based on what you select in the form.
After submitting the Google form, you'll receive an email with your form submission, which serves as your receipt.
Free Donation, Reasonable Free Donation
'How much should I donate?' is probably the most common question.
My understanding is that this donation is a gesture to help the community promote the popularization of scientific tools in Taiwan, not just for the tool itself.
The tools we receive are gifts after donation. Teacher Jiahsu also donates scientific tools to teachers, rural areas, and educational institutions in the name of the community (all recorded in the community).
The community was established in 2013. Year after year, the operation model has never changed, with the goal of helping more people obtain scientific tools at affordable prices.
Regardless of the donation amount, you will receive scientific tools, but please don't forget the meaning behind the donation.
Serial Number
The community tools have many 'upgrade accessories', most of which can be exchanged with community points (SciSpot).
Some 'upgrade accessories' have materials that are harder to obtain or have higher unit prices. These require completing specific tasks and are distributed in limited quantities to give those who truly want them a chance to obtain these tools.
Serial numbers have a dedicated acquisition area. Teacher Jiahsu will post an additional article explaining the process. After completing the task in that post, the serial number will be distributed by the teacher or enthusiastic community members.
After receiving the serial number, it's recommended to take a screenshot and save it on your phone for easy reference when filling out the Google form.
Collaboration, Finding Help
After registration, Teacher Jiahsu will handle the preliminary work, including ordering materials and laser cutting.
Once the raw materials become components, 20 community members will be invited to help with processing, assembly, packaging, and shipping.
Collaboration happens every month, and everyone is welcome to participate. You can directly see 'the birth of a scientific tool' and ask any questions on the spot.
At noon, Teacher Jiahsu will treat everyone to pizza and fried chicken, and there will also be enthusiastic community members bringing drinks, food, fruits, and snacks to share.
After collaboration ends, Teacher Jiahsu will give a scientific tool as today's collaboration gift.
Workshop
Before the pandemic, the Science Factory would hold various physical activities from time to time. Teacher Jiahsu is always willing to lend the venue to everyone. The recent phone microscope workshop is a physical activity that I applied for with Teacher Jiahsu, held after collaboration.
The small phone microscope workshop mainly helps new friends who received the phone microscope to quickly experience the joy of observation. We'll guide everyone through assembly, teach basic operations and daily maintenance, and how to use the polarizing module and metallographic module.
After participating in more than 20 collaborations and eating Teacher Jiahsu's pizza more than 20 times, I've made many new friends and gained much new knowledge. Hosting the phone microscope workshop is a way to give back to the community based on my current capabilities.
I'm just the main speaker, but behind me are many kind and low-key community members helping to plan details, share teaching experience, prepare microphones, prepare observation samples, take photos... (I can't write their names yet! Really!)
I'm not sure how long I can continue, but I'll keep going as long as I have the opportunity. Hope to meet everyone!
